Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Many families contact us because they have concerns but are not sure whether their child needs a dyslexia assessment, speech and language therapy, or something else.
We can discuss your concerns during an initial enquiry or consultation and help you decide what may be most appropriate. If Bright Path Assessment and Therapy is not the right service, we will do our best to signpost you in the right direction.

A full dyslexia assessment looks at a child or young person’s pattern of strengths and difficulties across areas such as reading, spelling, writing, phonological processing, memory and processing speed.
The assessment also includes background information from parents or carers, and usually information from school. After the assessment, you will receive a detailed written report explaining the findings, whether they are consistent with dyslexia, and practical recommendations for home and school.
-
Yes. Speech, language and communication skills can have an important impact on learning, reading, writing, understanding instructions and expressing ideas.
Some children who appear to be struggling with literacy may also have underlying language difficulties. Because Bright Path Assessment and Therapy offers both speech and language therapy and dyslexia assessment, we are able to consider the wider communication and learning profile, rather than looking at literacy in isolation.
-
Dyslexia assessments are usually arranged in carefully selected assessment spaces in the Burscough and West Lancashire area, chosen to provide a calm, quiet and comfortable environment. We also offer visits across the North West and Cheshire, depending on availability, travel distance and individual circumstances. Where appropriate and agreed in advance, these can be carried out at a child’s school, family home or another suitable location.
-
Fees are clearly explained before any assessment or therapy begins.
For dyslexia assessments or other assessment work involving a written report, payment is required before the final report is released. For speech and language therapy sessions, payment is usually made after each session unless a block booking or alternative arrangement has been agreed.
We aim to be transparent about costs, and any additional written work, extended liaison or extra reports will be discussed in advance wherever possible.
-
After the assessment, a written report will be prepared and sent to parents once payment has been received.
A follow-up video call will also be arranged to talk through the report, explain the findings and answer any questions. This is usually booked at the time of the assessment and will take place a few days after the report has been sent, giving parents time to read through it first.
The aim is to make sure the report is clear, useful and understood, and that families feel confident about the next steps for home, school or further support.
